Global Leadership Exchange Programs
Global Leadership Exchange: University of Johannesburg
In Spring 2020, LEAD began a global leadership exchange partnership with the University of Johannesburg in South Africa. Students from the University of Johannesburg will visit Appalachian State during the Spring semester in even-numbered years, and Appalachian State students will visit the University of Johannesburg during the Spring semester of odd-numbered years.
Students may participate in the global exchange experience by traveling to South Africa and/or serving as a Global Leadership Exchange Fellow on campus who hosts and University of Johannesburg students during their campus visit.
Study Abroad: Barcelona, Spain
Leadership Studies offers a study abroad course open to any Appalachian State undergraduate student, HPC 3536: Leadership and Culture, focusing on social movements in Barcelona, Spain. The campus-based course component begins in the spring semester of even-numbered years and ends with a 10-day experience in Barcelona in mid-May. Students in the Leadership Studies Minor may satisfy elective credits with this course.
This course is designed to provide intellectual and cultural immersion into the role of leadership and followership within social movements. Utilizing the specific context of Barcelona, Spain, students will explore how leadership concepts apply to the city’s unique cultural identity and activist history within Spain and the Catalunya independence movement.
