Blood Drive

The Community-Engaged Leadership Office organizes a massive blood drive twice a year, bringing together students, faculty, staff, and community members to support local, regional, and global healthcare needs. This bi-yearly initiative not only helps replenish critical blood supplies but also foster a culture of civic responsibility and service. Through strategic partnerships with medical organizations and blood banks like the American Red Cross, these events provide a convenient and impactful way for participants to contribute to life-saving efforts. By promoting awareness and encouraging participation, the office reinforces its commitment to community engagement and collective well-being.
Our Homecoming Blood Drives are one of the largest single-day, single-site blood drives in the nation. Appalachian State University’s 9th Annual Homecoming Blood Drive, held Sept. 24, 2015, collected 1,322 pints of blood, setting a record for Appalachian and a new national record for a single-day, university-based blood drive with the help of more than 1,160 students, faculty and staff blood donors.
Greek Life and Campus Organization Support
To maximize participation and community impact, Community-Engaged Leadership often collaborates with Greek Life and other student organizations to promote each blood drive. By partnering with fraternities and sororities, CEL extends its outreach and encourages friendly competition among campus groups. Additionally, clubs and organizations can earn Homecoming points for their involvement, incentivizing members to donate and volunteer. This partnership not only strengthens campus engagement but also reinforces the importance of collective action in addressing critical community needs.
