App Votes recently attended the NC Voter Summit at Elon University – read more below!
On September 12, App Votes had the pleasure of attending the NC College Voter Summit at Elon University. We were able to meet student leaders from across the state as well as connect with nonprofits that work to promote voting on college campuses.
This year’s summit focused on local elections and ways we can engage students beyond general elections. In one of the sessions, “Power Moves: From Awareness to Action” hosted by Shakeyla Ingram, we learned about what our “power moves” as an organization, as a school, and as individuals can look like. These power moves are real changes and resolutions made by students for students.
We are also proud to say that Ashley Vinson, the Assistant Director of Community-Engaged Leadership, and Taylor Womble, a Graduate Assistant, were invited to speak on panels both to faculty and students. On the student panel, ideas were shared about how to educate students on voter ID laws and how to continue to motivate students who feel overwhelmed by politics. We are happy to have the opportunity to meet other changemakers in our state!
