Events
The Office of Community-Engaged Leadership (CEL) hosts various events to help the campus community engage in service and leadership opportunities. Take a look below to learn more about the events we host each year. You can also view all of our events and community service opportunities in Engage.
Blood Drive
Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs a blood donation, but only five percent of the eligible population typically donates. To help contribute to this overwhelming need, our students coordinate one of the largest single-day, single-site blood drives in the nation each semester. Find out more about what happens when and after you donate blood. Check out Engage to see when our next Blood Drive is happening.
Days of Service
CEL sponsors a monthly opportunity for service, reflection and education. In this one-day event, participants are urged to consider their impact and greater role in the world around them. Visit Engage to view more details about our upcoming Days of Service events.
Don’t Throw It Away
Each spring, students donate their unwanted items when they move out of their dorms and apartments. Instead of going in the dumpster, the Office of Community-Engaged Leadership and the Office of Sustainability collect these gently used, working items to donate to local nonprofit partners and reduce the landfill waste produced during the end-of-year move out. Together, these events highlight App State’s commitment to sustainability and demonstrate how positive action makes our community a better place to live.
We accept nearly everything as long as it works, is clean, and only gently used. This includes clean bedding/towels, cleaning supplies, clothing, decorations, furniture, household items, kitchen items, school supplies, small electronics, unopened food items, vacuum cleaners, and more!
Donations can be dropped off at the East Hall Lot or New River Lot from May 6-9, 2024 between 9:00am – 4:00pm. We will hold a yard sale on May 8-9, 2024 from 9:00am – 4:00pm at the East Hall Lot. All of the proceeds will be donated.
Interested in volunteering?
We work with a variety of nonprofit organizations across the High Country who are often in need of volunteers. If you are interested in serving locally in the community or volunteering at one of our events, check out the different service opportunities that we have available.
